Located just minutes from Airlie Beach, this is a unique opportunity to use your midwifery skills in a community-based general practice environment while becoming an important link between our patients, GPs, allied health professionals and local maternity services.

Why Join Cannonvale Medical Centre?

  • Enjoy a rewarding community-based midwifery role
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Supportive multidisciplinary clinical team
  • Opportunity to develop and expand maternity and women's health services
  • Free onsite parking and an easy commute
  • Exceptional Whitsundays location and lifestyle

About the Role

Women's and Children's Health is an important part of the comprehensive primary healthcare provided by Cannonvale Medical Centre.

Our aim is to support women and their families with accessible, compassionate and coordinated care before and after the birth of their baby, while working collaboratively with the wider healthcare services involved in their maternity journey.

As our General Practice Support Midwife, you will play an important role in helping women navigate pregnancy, maternity services, postnatal care and early parenthood.

You will work alongside our GPs, nurses, allied health professionals and administration team while helping to strengthen communication and continuity between general practice, patients and local hospital maternity services.

This is an opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with women and families and provide the education, reassurance and clinical support that can make such a difference during this important stage of life.

Your Role

Working with the support of our Practice Manager and clinical team, your responsibilities may include:

  • Providing woman-centred maternity and postnatal support within the general practice environment
  • Supporting women throughout pregnancy and during their transition into parenthood
  • Providing education and guidance relating to pregnancy, birth preparation, postnatal recovery and newborn care
  • Supporting breastfeeding, infant feeding and early parenting where appropriate
  • Providing postnatal follow-up and education for mothers and families
  • Identifying women and families who may benefit from additional clinical or community support
  • Helping patients navigate maternity and community health services
  • Liaising with GPs, hospitals, maternity services, allied health professionals and other healthcare providers
  • Promoting continuity of care between the patient's general practice and maternity care providers
  • Creating a supportive, respectful and culturally safe environment for women and their families
  • Sharing your midwifery knowledge and experience with our broader nursing and clinical team
  • Contributing to the continued development of our Women's and Children's Health services

Above all, we are looking for someone who understands that excellent maternity care is not only clinical — it is also about communication, reassurance, education and supporting women to feel confident in their own journey into parenthood.

About You

You will be an experienced Midwife who enjoys working collaboratively and values continuity of care and strong relationships with patients.

Essential Requirements

  • Current registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
  • Recognised qualifications in Midwifery
  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge and experience in maternity, postnatal and/or women's health
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A compassionate and woman-centred approach to care
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team

Eligibility for a Medicare Provider Number in your own name is highly desirable where applicable to the scope and structure of the position.

We offer:

  • Collaborative multidisciplinary team
  • Opportunity to help shape and grow our maternity and women's health services
  • Professional development and the opportunity to broaden your general practice experience
  • Free parking and easy commuting
  • A workplace where kindness, professionalism and teamwork matter
