Job Description

Practice Nurse – Come Work Where Others Holiday

Cannonvale Medical Centre | Whitsundays, Queensland

Ready for a change of pace — without taking a step back in your nursing career?

Cannonvale Medical Centre is looking for an experienced Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse to join our friendly and growing general practice team in the beautiful Whitsundays.

And we're not just looking for another employee.

We're looking for a great nurse who wants to become part of our team — someone who enjoys knowing their patients, working alongside supportive doctors and colleagues, and being part of a medical practice where their contribution genuinely matters.

If you've been thinking about making a lifestyle change, escaping the city commute, relocating somewhere warmer or simply finding a workplace where you can enjoy nursing again, this could be the opportunity you've been waiting for.

Why Cannonvale?

Because life outside work matters too.

Our medical centre is located in Cannonvale, just minutes from Airlie Beach and the gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef.

This is a place where you can finish your shift and be at the beach, on the water or meeting friends for dinner within minutes.

No hour-long commute.

No big-city rush.

Just a busy, rewarding nursing role in one of Australia's most beautiful coastal communities.

People save all year to holiday here. You could live here.

The Nursing Role

As a Practice Nurse at Cannonvale Medical Centre, you'll enjoy the variety and continuity of care that makes general practice nursing so rewarding.

No two days are quite the same.

Depending on your experience and interests, your role may include:

  • Chronic disease management and care planning
  • Health assessments
  • Immunisations and vaccinations
  • Wound care and dressings
  • ECGs and other clinical observations
  • Assisting GPs with minor procedures
  • Patient education and preventative healthcare
  • Infection prevention and clinical stock management
  • Supporting patients across all stages of life
  • General treatment-room and practice nursing duties

You'll work closely with our GPs, nurses and administration team to provide high-quality, patient-centred care to our established local community as well as visitors to the Whitsundays.

What We're Really Looking For

Clinical skills matter, but so does the person behind them.

We're looking for a nurse who is kind, capable, organised and genuinely enjoys caring for people.

Someone who can have a laugh with the team, reassure a nervous patient, jump in when things get busy and appreciate being part of a workplace where everyone contributes.

You may already be an experienced Practice Nurse.

Or perhaps you're an experienced RN or EN from another clinical setting who has been thinking about moving into general practice.

If you have the right attitude and strong nursing foundations, we'd still love to hear from you.

What You'll Find at Cannonvale Medical Centre

We know good nurses have choices.

That's why we want this to be a position where you can build a role that works for your career and your life.

You'll enjoy:

  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Competitive remuneration based on experience
  • A supportive and established clinical team
  • Experienced GPs and nursing colleagues
  • A varied and interesting patient population
  • A modern general practice environment
  • Opportunity to broaden your primary healthcare skills
  • Professional development and ongoing learning
  • Free parking and an easy commute
  • The opportunity to become part of a close-knit local community
  • And, of course, the Whitsundays lifestyle

Already Living in the Whitsundays?

You don't need to be looking to relocate to make a change.

If you're already working locally and have wondered what general practice nursing might offer you, we'd be very happy to have a confidential conversation.

General practice provides something special: the opportunity to get to know your patients, see families over time and play an important role in preventative healthcare and continuity of care.

Your nursing experience may be more transferable than you think.

Thinking About Relocating?

Maybe you've visited Airlie Beach and thought:

"Imagine actually living here."

Why not?

The Whitsundays offers an incredible combination of tropical lifestyle and community living, with boating, fishing, sailing, beaches, islands and the Great Barrier Reef virtually on your doorstep.

Whether you're looking for your next career move, a sea change or simply a better balance between work and living, we'd love to talk to you.

Sometimes the best career move isn't just about changing jobs.

It's about changing your lifestyle.

About You

You'll need:

  • Current AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse
  • Strong clinical and communication skills
  • A commitment to high-quality patient care
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • A positive, reliable and professional approach

Previous general practice experience is highly regarded, but don't let a lack of GP experience stop you from applying if you have strong transferable nursing skills.
